The Rush Cart came to Lees Brook. Just as we were on our way home from calling on poor Aunt Eliza who wasn’t well. It was a lovely sight with the clog dancer leading the Rush Cart and the girls in their bright costumes collecting for Hey church, and pulling the cart along was Bonnie Wharfe, the milk horse. Miss Carter (who wore pink) had walked down to meet us , but looked rather disapproving at the man on the top of the rushes trying to drink beer out of the spout of an old copper kettle, while everyone called and clapped him and said that if he fell off he’d be kettled.
