William Henry Gore

Biography

William Henry Gore was a painter of figure and genre subjects, painting in a similar style to that of Charles Burton Barber and Arthur John Elsley.

Mr. Gore received his early art training in the Lambeth School of Art, from which he entered the Royal Academy schools in 1880. In 1882 his work was first exhibited in the Academy, and for nearly twenty years after that his pictures appeared regularly on its walls. In all he has shown some thirty pictures there, and many of these (including "Forgive us our Trespasses" and "The End of the Tale") have achieved popularity as prints. Titles exhibited at The Royal Academy include "It Was a Lover and his Lass" and "In The Gloaming".

He also exhibited 21 works at Suffolk Street between 1880 and 1894; titles there included "Midst the Tall Crested Water Reeds" and "Whispering Their Lullaby".

Gore lived at Newbury in Berkshire.
