William Davies
Biography
William Davies was a Scottish landscape painter. He generally painted Highland and Lake District scenes often with sheep and cattle. Many of his Highland scenes are set in Argyllshire.
Davies’ landscapes display his love of open-air painting and illustrate his delight in natural observation, particularly in his treatment of mountains, rivers, foliage and his highly detailed sheep and cattle. The dramatic effects of weather and seasons play a major part in Davies’ work, often giving his canvases a great sense of depth and realism.
His style and attitude toward Scottish landscape certainly made an impression on his fellow landscape painters as well as avid collectors of his works.
