Paul Gustav Fischer
Biography
Paul Gustaf Fischer was a painter and sculptor born in Copenhagen on 22 July 1860. He studied at the Academy of Copenhagen and he exhibited his portraits and genre paintings regularly.
Fischer was influenced by his travels to Paris in the late 1870’s and 1880’s and by the paintings of the French Impressionists he saw there, Paul bought back a kind of painting not seen before on Denmark.
Like Monet and Pissaro, he became the chronicler of modern urban life, but his depictions of the squares and boulevards of the Danish capital are executed with a greater degree of realism.
Fischer also exhibited in Paris and Munich. The Hillerd Museum, Fredericksburg, Germany hold works by this artist.
