French born 1853 Leo Hermann was born in Paris on 2 July, 1853. Schooled in France, he exhibited at a salon for genre paintings from 1875. It was here that Hermann established himself as a highly successful, commercial artist specialising in figurative, narrative genre. He carved a strong reputation for his portrayal of Catholic clergy from his native France, often in comical scenarios. His work is as sought after today as it was in his own lifetime
