Joseph Vincent Gibson
Biography
Joseph Vincent Gibson was a painter of figurative subjects and genre scenes, who lived and worked in London as well as travelling throughout the British Isles.
Gibson exhibited six works at the Royal Academy, 1862-88. Titles include “A Parting Gift”, “Carrying off the Palm” and “A Busy Little Bee”. He also exhibited at the British Institution and Suffolk Street.
Gibson’s works are much sought after. He is noted for his skill at capturing ‘the gesture’, character and humour of charming children in the safe surroundings of the English country cottage. Gibson’s work is very much tinged with realism and although in part is idealist; he certainly tries to show country life as it really was. Gibson simply allows the children’s innocent games to take centre stage giving them sparkle with his clever use of colour and light.
His works can be found in many museums and art galleries including those of Salford and Manchester.
