Henry Le Jeune
Biography
London painter of genre subjects who studied at the Royal Academy Schools. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1840 -1894 also exhibiting at Suffolk Street and the British Institution.
Henry Le Jeune also painted historical and country scenes.
In 1845 he became a Drawing Master at the Royal Academy and in 1848 he was the Curator. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1863.
Henry Le Jeune's sentimental portrayals of children set a prototype for the work of many artists in the 19th century. With the tender conception of his paintings Le Jeune sees his subjects from the glad and robust side with a less pristine and more realistic view of children, hence the nostalgic appeal of the present work.
Works by this artist can be found in the Manchester and Salford Art Galleries.
