Harry  Brooker

Biography

Harry Brooker was a painter of domestic genre, especially children, who exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and at Suffolk Street.

His Victorian interiors and figures are full of period charm and follow the tradition of Webster and F. D. Hardy. The chief attraction of Brooker’s pictures are his happy choice of subjects, rollicking children portrayed with an endearing naughtiness, enthralled with the joys of youth. Brooker’s feel for social realism and rustic simplicity have been the important ingredients in all of his canvases, portrayed in a way that only a few of this period knew how.
