George Shalders

Biography

George Shalders was a landscape painter and watercolourist, who lived in Portsmouth and London.

Shalders subjects were mostly summery views in Wales, Ireland and Surrey and occasionally on the Continent. His work is traditional and attractive, and shows affinities with two other artists from the South West, William Shayer and F R Lee.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1848 and 1862, at Suffolk Street, British Institution and the New Watercolour Society.

Works by Shalders are in the Walker Art Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
A benefit sale was held at Christie's for his children on March 9th 1874.
