Frederick William Watts
Biography
Frederick William Watts was a landscape painter.
He lived in Hampstead at the same time as Constable, who greatly influenced his work.
Watts exhibited mainly at the British Institute 1823-62, also at the Royal Academy 1821-60, Suffolk Street and New Watercolour Society.
Although he imitated closely many of the elements of Constable’s style, Watts preserved his own distinctive style and colouring. During his own lifetime and after his death, his reputation was eclipsed by that of Constable, but his work is now enjoying a well-deserved revival.
