Franz Xaver Wolf

Biography

Franz Xaver Wölf was a painter who painted in both oils and watercolours.

He was born in Vienna on the 11 June 1896. Wölfle was a pupil of the Academies of Vienna and also at Munich.

Wölfl’s subjects include still lifes, landscapes and figurative genre scenes. His paintings are vibrant, responding wonderfully to the intensity of light and atmosphere. With his interiors he became the perfect recorder of that glorious period in which the well-to-do British Society of the 18th Century dressed richly.

The colours he found in Vienna were retained in the depiction of his lavish library interiors, each and every one having an air of elegance and sophistication.

His paintings can be found in many European Museums and Art Galleries including Vienna and Berlin.
