Francois  Brunery

Biography

Francois Brunery painted genre scenes usually with cardinals or cavaliers. It is popularly believed that with Landini, Vibert and Crogaert, Brunery is one of the leading exponents of the “Cardinal School of Painters”.

He was born in Turin, but moved to Paris to work on art at the Paris Salon and in fact spent most of his life in Paris. He studied under Gerome and Bonnat in Paris and exhibited at the Paris Salon where he received an honourable mention in 1903.

At the French Society of Artists in 1898, Brunery worked on his detailed Genne & Rekoko Interior scenes containing musicians as well as conserving group scenes for which he received much attention. In 1908 Brunery exhibited “Rokoko Tafelmunde” and in 1909 “Toast du Le Marie”.
