Biography
Whilst records of Ferranti’s life are scarce his paintings frequently appear on the international art market and are chricterized by great technical proficiency and life.
Rome in the mid-nineteenth century was a ‘mecca’ for aspiring art scholars and the competitions for the Rome, Academies annual ‘Prix de Rome’ contests was international and fierce.
Ferranti’s compositions fall directly into the popular fashion of the day for figurative genre pieces often peopled by elegant figures in period costume and with amorous, amusing or anecdotal motive.
The present example is typical in format displaying exemplary draughtsmanship and subtle colouring and is in pristine condition.
