Arthur David McCormick
Biography
Arthur David McCormick was born at Coleraine in Ireland. He lived in London and painted landscapes and figurative subjects as well as African and Indian subjects.
In this tour de force, McCormick has captured a wonderful image of sailors and deckhands working furiously on board of an 18th Century British Galleon. This robust canvas is full of colour, vibrancy and movement. The artist has observed a host of individual characters working on the deck to the sound of a fiddlers tune. McCormick undoubtedly had an acute working knowledge of shipping vessels from this period as his attention to detail in elements, such as the rigging, is accurately described.
McCormick studied at the Royal College of Art and exhibited ten works at the Royal Academy between 1889 and 1904. Titles include “A Dead World”, “Sakar, India – Moonlight” and “A Hunter’s Shrine - Central Caucasus”. In addition he exhibited nine works at Suffolk Street.
